“More than Dream” – worship song CD last day recording!

Well, we’re almost three hours into final day recording of my worship song album.

vocals-recording-1 More than Dream (Peace be our living) was birthed when I turned the wonderful 60 years two Februarys ago. What could I do to mark this so-called milestone? Yes, to gather a group of musicians – some of my own church, Dale and those from earlier years, go into a recording studio, yes – pay plenty of bucks, and record a collection of my congregational worship songs.  I had so, so many to choose from.

It took over 12 months for things to crystallise with this. Initially my plans were way too grandiose. Seemed like every musician I had played with over many decades was in on the project. Fast forward to mid 2016 and it was time to scale it back. So that’s what’s happened. Jodi, Paul, Katharine, Sam, Peter, Lesley, Dale and others from my church have added their vocals and instruments.

Thanks to professional muso son Nathan, I connected with Hunting Ground Studios in Moorooka and recording engineer Andrew Threlfo.  Andrew’s a key music person at Hillsong Brisbane, so managed to “tick” a range of boxes. He’s been great to work with.  By this day’s end, close on 31 hours will have been spent in the studio, tracking 13 songs. Most have been written in the last 6 years. One of these Thinkin’ it Over dates back to the late 1970s and my time with Peter and Katherine Rixon in a Christian band – Heartstone. It’s been great to re-engage with them on this project, along with friend Stephen Peake.

It’s also been great having our youngest, Nathan add his drumming excellence to the project as well as another son, Jeremy take plenty of stills at recording sessions. Our friend Derek Griffin has taken plenty of video today too.  We’ll use some of that at the album launch.

Watch this space.

Yes, this is the first time ever I’ve managed a professionally recorded collection of my worship songs – all on the one album.  It’s something I’m immensely proud of so far. I’m so thankful to Dale especially, but to the so-many wonderful people who have contributed so far and will do in the months to come.

… and to God be the glory.
