a town like Alice

Writing this from Alice Springs, where we are for two days. Come midday tomorrow (Tuesday ) we finally rendezvous with four of Dale’s U.S. family. They’ll be motoring the 6-berth Apollo ‘battleship’ Motorhome from the north.

After arriving at The Alice around midday, we checked into our Desert Palms accommodation – quite nice – we drove into the city for a bite to eat. Sunday afternoon, so many shops were closed but we did manage a stroll down Todd Mall, walk by John Flynn Uniting Church, check our some aboriginal art & souvenirs and spend some time at the Visitors Centre.

Imagine our pleasant surprise to discover that at the Golf Club right next to our lodgings, Symphony under the Stars was being staged that night, Darwin Symphony Orchestra, James Morrison and a wonderful indigenous didge player. It was lovely – even to our further surprise running into two Uniting Church ministry colleagues!

Before that though, we drove to the historic Old Telegraph Station, checked out the panoramic view from Anzac Hill, drove out of town to Rev John Flynn’s memorial stone (where he and his wife’s ashes rest) and managed a quick but refreshing swim at Desert Palms.

The evening was delightful – we only stayed until interval, but enjoyed the wondrous skills of James Morrison wafting over us as we relaxed with a coffee from our patio

Today, I need to drink much more water … I consumed what seemed like litres yesterday and that still wasn’t enough. 40 degrees yesterday …. same today!
