Great Adventure begins!

Well, the day has arrived!

Long service leave for both of us through September and October is upon us. We’re SO looking forward to it!

In just a few hours, Dale and I head to the airport for our 11.15 am flight to Los Angeles, with a transfer onto San Francisco, where we catch up with our great friends Glenn and Jan.

Virgin 777Over the next eight weeks our experiences will range from Alaskan glaciers to the red centre of Australia,; from the sights of San Francisco to the sights (and no doubt, smells) from our travels in a 6-berth motorhome; from community enjoyed linking with Frontier Services’ Burke and Wills patrol to community enjoyed in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania as I officiate at the wedding of Dale’s niece Maria to Mark.

Our travel will be so varied – Boeing 777s across the Pacific to  little 60-seater commuter planes in the USA; the renowned Coast Starlight overnight Amtrak service from Seattle to San Francisco … to the @#*!? Queensland Rail Westlander from Brisbane to Charleville.

Lots more. Basically five segments to our leave:

  • West Coast North America … incl. Alaska cruise with our friends
  • Ohio and Pennsylvania … with Dale’s Dad & family, and oh … the wedding
  • (breaking leave for a week) sharing in our church’s SW Qld Connect trip to Charleville and linking with and supporting the work of Rev John Case – Frontier Services patrol padre: Burke & Wills patrol
  • some down time, incl. a week at Gold Coast
  • joining with members of Dale’s U.S. family, doing the outback motorhome thing. We join with them at Alice Springs, travel to Yulara, and then journey through to Coober Pedy, on to Sydney, then Brisbane.

A rough map of places (among many others) we’ll be visiting is here:

I’ll be blogging along the way … whenever I feel like it … and with hopefully some nice pics and even a bit of video from time to time.

Cheers,

David

presence

Power-of-His-PresenceWell, a first for me.

I’ve finally – 10 years after first writing it – done music score for a piano piece called Presence. Thanks Peter Nelson (a songwrite attendee back in February) for the motivation for doing so.  Score and recording are attached.  They probably don’t exactly match up, but that doesn’t matter.

I recall the song just ‘coming’ around the time of writing a worship song: That the world might know you.  We used that one at a Uniting Church Queensland synod.

With Presence, I recall a moment when I was struck by the graced life of God with me – I wanted to bask it in – abide in this love forever.  I hope the song conveys something of that to you.
