you are

Hi!

Challenging times. Didn’t sleep well last night. Waking around 5.30, went for a walk – something I’m trying to get into the habit of.  I took my iPhone with me, ready to listen to some music, as you do …

Somehow, with much turning over in mind … and through much of the night, I found myself turning to the music of the psalms. Increasingly I say “yes” within myself when I hear the Psalms described as God’s prayerbook.

So it was that the words of Psalm 46 spoke into my spirit as I walked silently.  Words like these …

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change,
though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;
though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble with its tumult.

The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our refuge.

“Be still, and know that I am God!

And so it was that I found these words (and a few additional thoughts of my own) being transformed into song.  A vocal recording and music score later … haven’t been in the ‘space’ to write for seemingly a long time until now.

You are    You are BACKING TRACK

God, you are my strength
God, my refuge, Lord
Lord when troubles rise,
my help always
God, you are my strength
You’re my refuge, Lord
My strong fortress, my rock
all my days.

We won’t be afraid
though the earth will shake
though the mountains tumble and fall
We won’t be afraid
though the earth will shake
We will praise you as Lord of all

So we still our hearts
So we still our minds
We exalt you and know you are God
So we still our hearts
So we still our minds
We exalt you and know you are God

Alleluia, alleluia
Alleluia, alleluia
Alleluia, alleluia
God, you are our strength
God, you are our life
You are hope
You are love
You are God.
