Back in 1998, I wrote a little, reflective kids song on prayer, Ican talk with Jesus. My hunch is that the inspiration was this Sunday’s lectionary gospel – Luke 11:1-13. It includes Luke’s shorter version of the Lord’s Prayer … perhaps more accurately, The Disciple’s Prayer
On reflection, I reckon it holds up well. Perhaps it could have had a verse to do with praise, but anyhow, here it is. I’m happy that I used “with” Jesus rather than “to”. A reminder of the sense of dialogue, communion and conversation deep in the heart of prayer.
For me, it’s one of those kids songs I’ve written (and I’ve written many over the years) that the whole congregation could sing. Feel free to use it.
Shalom,
David
I can talk with Jesus
1. I can talk with Jesus
any time of day
Talk about those problems
that just won’t go away
Don’t always want answers
Just someone who hears
I can talk with Jesus –
he always hears.2. I can talk with Jesus
When times are best can be!
Talk about the great things
happening to me, and
When I’ve done things real bad,
when “sorry’s” the only word
I can talk with Jesus3. I can talk with Jesus
‘bout sadness in this world
dying, fighting, hurt; and
more than only listen,
he answers me God’s way.
I can talk with Jesus
I can talk with Jesus
We can talk together
in prayer, each day.David MacGregor © 1998 Willow Publishing
